IGEM backs UK-wide drive to inspire the next generation of engineers

IGEM is proud to announce that we have become a signatory of the Tomorrow's Engineers Code, strengthening our commitment to inspiring future engineers and creating more inclusive pathways into engineering careers.

This forms part of IGEM’s ongoing work to support equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI), helping to ensure that young people from all backgrounds can see themselves reflected in the engineering profession and understand the opportunities available to them.

The Tomorrow's Engineers Code is a framework and community managed by EngineeringUK, bringing together more than 400 organisations across the UK with a shared ambition: to increase both the diversity and number of young people entering engineering and technology careers.

By joining the Code, IGEM is becoming part of a collaborative network committed to delivering high-quality STEM engagement that is sustained, inclusive and impactful.

The Code provides a shared framework for organisations to develop outreach activities through four core pledges:

• Work together to create a coordinated approach to engineering and technology outreach
• Inspire and engage young people through sustained activities that showcase the breadth of opportunities available
• Champion diversity and inclusion by ensuring outreach reaches young people from all backgrounds
• Evaluate and improve activities by measuring impact and using insights to continually enhance engagement.

As a professional engineering institution dedicated to advancing the safety, reliability and sustainability of energy, IGEM recognises the importance of encouraging future talent to explore careers that will shape the UK's energy future.

The energy sector is undergoing significant transformation, with exciting opportunities emerging across areas including hydrogen, renewable gases, digitalisation and the transition to net zero. Attracting a skilled and diverse workforce will be essential to developing the expertise and innovation needed to meet these challenges.
