IGEM’s scholarships, grants and awards are here to support you on your educational journey and beyond. We aim to inspire innovation and personal development by recognising and rewarding your achievements wherever we can. The following scholarships and grants are available to those working towards an engineering career with an interest in the energy sector, via university study or through formal and educational professional development.

Prospective Undergraduate Students Prospective Undergraduate Students

The undergraduate scholarship is open to students who currently hold a conditional or unconditional offer for an Undergraduate Engineering Council accredited course.

How much is the scholarship worth?

If successful, students will receive up to £9,000 (£3,000 per year up to three years) for full time study (this will be pro-rata for part time study). Renewal of the funding after the first year is conditional on satisfactory progress being made.

Am I eligible?

The undergraduate scholarship is open to students who currently hold a conditional or unconditional offer for an Undergraduate Engineering Council accredited course.

  • Applicants must intend to commence their degree in the next academic session.
  • Applicants must be a member of IGEM at the time of applying for a scholarship or join as a member once their course has commenced.
  • IGEM employees are not eligible to apply

What will I need to do?

You will need to fill in and send us your application form along with the relevant references and supporting information required. Applications will be reviewed by our Scholarship Panel who will then notify applicants if they have been successful or not. 

Interviews for shortlisted candidates will be scheduled for July each year, where applicants will be required to discuss their application further with the Scholarship Panel.

Candidates will be notified of the outcome as soon as possible after the interview and successful applicants will be sent an offer for their funds soon after.

All you need to do is download and complete the application form, along with the supporting academic reference form, and personal reference form and send back to us at [email protected] with all supporting documentation by the end of May each year and we will contact you shortly after.

The undergraduate scholarship is open to those currently enrolled on Engineering Council accredited degrees and making excellent progress, to the standard of 2:1 or above.

How much is the scholarship worth?

If successful, students will receive up to £6,000, £3,000 per year up to two years for full time study, (this will be pro-rata for part time study) on a BEng degree-level course (excluding industrial years). The scholarship is renewable annually, subject to satisfactory progress being made.

Am I eligible?

This scholarship is open to those registered on the first year of their Engineering Council accredited degree and making excellent progress, to the standard of 2:1 or above.

  • Current IGEM Undergraduate Scholarship holders are not eligible to apply
  • Applicants must be a member of IGEM at the time of applying for a scholarship.
  • IGEM employees are not eligible to apply

The postgraduate masters scholarship is open to exceptional postgraduates from an Engineering Council accredited degree programme, who wish to pursue an Engineering Council accredited masters degree.

How much is the scholarship worth?

If successful, students will receive up to £6,500 for full time study (this will be pro-rata for part time study up to two years).

Am I eligible?

The postgraduate masters scholarship is open to exceptional postgraduates from an Engineering Council accredited degree programme, who wish to pursue an Engineering Council accredited masters degree.

  • Applicants must be a member of IGEM at the time of applying
  • Applicants must intend to commence their masters degree in the next academic session (If you have already commenced you are not eligible to apply)
  • Applicants must have received an offer of a place at a university
  • Applicants should be expecting or have already gained a first class or 2:1 honours Engineering Council accredited degree
  • IGEM employees are not eligible to apply

You will need to fill in and send us your application form along with the relevant references and supporting information required. Applications will be reviewed by our Scholarship Panel who will then notify applicants if they have been successful or not.

Engineering Technician (EngTech) Grant Engineering Technician (EngTech) Grant

This grant recognises outstanding IGEM Engineering Technician (EngTech) members and the contribution they are making to the gas industry and wider community.

What are the benefits?

The successful applicant will be awarded up to £1,500 to use towards supporting their career development.

Am I eligible?

  • The award is open to any EngTech member of IGEM
  • IGEM employees are not eligible to apply

What will I need to do?

You will need to fill in and send us your application form along with any supporting information required.

Entrants must demonstrate exceptional commitment to their professional development, and show how they have made a positive difference to their company.

Applications will be reviewed by our Scholarship Panel who will then notify applicants if they have been successful or not.

Interviews for successful candidates will be scheduled for July each year, where applicants will be required to discuss their application further with the Scholarship Panel.
