IGEM encourages nominations for the WES Awards

At IGEM, we’re proud to represent engineers and managers who are shaping the future of the gas and wider energy sector. Every day, our members contribute to innovation, safety, and sustainability across an industry that underpins the UK’s net zero ambitions. Help us recognise those achievements and amplify the work of our members at the Women in Engineering Society (WES) Awards.

What are the WES Awards?

The WES Awards celebrate women and allies who are breaking barriers, inspiring others, and delivering excellence in engineering. Categories include:

  • Amy Johnson Inspiration Award - recognises an individual who is not currently working as an engineer and has gone above and beyond to inspire women to enter or remain in engineering and technical professions.
  • Gillian Skinner Award - is presented to individuals who contribute nationally or locally, to recognise their efforts regardless of their career stage or type of involvement.
  • Men as Allies Award - highlighting men who actively support female colleagues and address the gender imbalance within engineering.
Why IGEM members should nominate

Our sector is full of talented professionals who deserve this recognition:

  1. Driving innovation in energy transition: IGEM members are at the forefront of hydrogen development, biomethane deployment, and cutting-edge infrastructure, vital for delivering a low-carbon energy system.
  2. Commitment to safety and standards: Maintaining world-class safety in the gas industry requires exceptional technical expertise and leadership qualities WES seeks to celebrate.
  3. Inspiring future engineers and championing inclusion: Many of our members mentor apprentices, support STEM outreach, and encourage women and underrepresented groups into engineering making them excellent candidates for the Gillian Skinner Inspiration Award.
Nominate

At IGEM, we know the value our members bring to the gas industry and the wider energy transition. By nominating them for the WES Awards, we can shine a spotlight on their contributions and inspire the next generation of engineers.

Let’s make sure our sector is represented, nominate an IGEM member today.

Nominations close on 22 September.
