Fellow announcement: Kyle Lewis
From innovation programmes to large-scale transformation initiatives, Kyle Lewis has spent his career helping shape the future of the gas industry. His contribution has now been recognised with election as a Fellow of IGEM.
Kyle has built a distinguished career supporting the evolution of regulated gas networks, combining operational expertise, transformation leadership and a strong commitment to professional development. Throughout his career, he has helped organisations respond to increasing regulatory expectations, changing energy priorities and the need to deliver greater outcomes with improved efficiency and resilience.
During his time at Wales & West Utilities, Kyle worked at the centre of the sector’s innovation ecosystem, managing a portfolio of improvement and innovation projects. He led the organisation’s use of Network Innovation Competition (NIC) and Network Innovation Allowance (NIA) funding, supporting projects focused on decarbonisation and future energy priorities. He also contributed to regulatory submissions to Ofgem and supported the development of the first cross-network Innovation Strategy through the Energy Networks Association.
Throughout his career supporting regulated gas distribution networks, Kyle has led major transformation and performance improvement programmes focused on strengthening operational capability and delivery. Combining data-led insight, strategic thinking and practical implementation, he has worked with network operators to redesign planning, prioritisation and governance processes, helping improve performance and build organisational capability. Across his work within the sector, Kyle has contributed to more than £23 million in realised efficiencies while supporting organisations to respond to evolving regulatory expectations and the future challenges facing the energy industry.
Kyle has also made a sustained contribution to IGEM throughout his career. As Chair of the IGEM Welsh Section, he led regional technical events, professional development activity and member engagement, helping strengthen connections across the engineering community. He continues to support the institution through his involvement with the Welsh Section Committee and the Professional Development Committee, contributing to the development of future engineers and managers.
Now as Managing Consultant at Capgemini Invent, Kyle continues to support the future of the gas industry by bringing together operational experience, transformation expertise and strategic insight to address challenges across decarbonisation, network investment and operational change.
On receiving his Fellowship, Kyle shared: “Being awarded Fellowship is genuinely humbling, and I am grateful to the institution for the recognition. IGEM has been a constant throughout my career, through chairing the Welsh Section, contributing to professional development, and being part of a community that holds the profession to such a high standard. That involvement has shaped me as much as any role I have held.
“In an increasingly digital and ironically disconnected world, the value of genuine professional community is easy to underestimate and hard to replace. IGEM has a rich history of bringing people together, across disciplines, generations and organisations. That sense of belonging is rarer than it should be, and worth protecting.
“I hope Fellowship marks not an endpoint but a deeper commitment. The industry faces real challenges ahead and I want to keep contributing to IGEM’s technical and professional agenda, connecting people across the sector and into our thriving community, and supporting those earlier in their careers who are finding their way through it.”
