UK public favours gas over heat pumps, finds survey

Heat pump

Interest in heat pumps is declining in the UK, with only 10% of people considering them as a replacement for gas boilers.

Instead, about half of the population would prefer to add hydrogen into their existing gas supply, according to a new survey.

Despite the government’s goal to install 600,000 heat pumps annually by 2028, up from 55,000 in 2023, the YouGov survey for the Energy and Utilities Alliance shows low uptake, with only one in ten homes having or planning to get a heat pump.
