NZTC opens applications for clean energy start-ups, with £500K in funding
The Net Zero Technology Centre (NZTC) has announced the opening of applications for its 2025 TechX Clean Energy Accelerator. This prestigious programme is inviting start-ups from around the globe to apply for a share of £500,000 in grant funding, with up to £50,000 available for each selected start-up.
NZTC is a not-for-profit organisation working with industry, government and academia driving technology innovation to accelerate the energy transition to net zero. The Net Zero Technology Centre was created as part of the Aberdeen City Region Deal, with £180 million of UK and Scottish government funding to maximise the potential of the North Sea.
The TechX Clean Energy Accelerator is designed to support and scale innovative clean energy solutions. It offers a unique opportunity for start-ups at Technology Readiness Levels (TRL) three to six, specialising in areas such as CCUS & methane capture, low carbon hydrogen, alternative fuels, and renewable energy.
This year’s programme will provide successful applicants with expert mentorship, tailored technology development guidance, and commercial growth support. Participants will also gain access to NZTC’s extensive network of advisors, investors, and energy operators.
Now in its seventh year, the TechX Accelerator has already supported nearly 70 start-ups, which have collectively raised over £106 million in equity and generated £27.3 million in revenue. The programme’s innovations have the potential to save 20-25 million tonnes of CO2e annually by 2030.
Mark Anderson, Chief Acceleration Officer and TechX Director, expressed enthusiasm for the programme, stating, “The disruptive nature of start-ups makes them key players in discovering and advancing technologies crucial for achieving net zero. We look forward to welcoming the next cohort and uncovering new innovations that will drive a cleaner, more resilient energy future.”
Deputy First Minister Kate Forbes added, “Scotland is poised to lead in clean energy innovation. The TechX programme, supported by our £90 million investment in the Net Zero Technology Centre, continues to be a vital catalyst for new technologies and economic growth.”
Applications for the 2025 TechX Clean Energy Accelerator are open until 27 October 2024. For more information and to apply, visit www.netzerotc.com/TechX
