Mourning the loss of our esteemed colleague and friend, Gordon Davies
We are deeply saddened to share the passing of our esteemed colleague and dear friend, Gordon Davies.
Gordon was a proud member of IGEM for over 60 years. Throughout those decades, he gave his time, wisdom, and energy with unwavering dedication to help shape the institution into what it is today.
Gordon held the title of Chartered Engineer for 55 years, achieved Fellowship at IGEM, and was later awarded the title of Honorary Fellow for his continued commitment to the profession and the institution.
In the early 2000s he fulfilled the position of CEO, and most recently, Gordon served as Honorary Secretary. Over the years, he also held many voluntary leadership roles including President of IGEM and served multiple terms as an Ordinary Member of Council. Gordon was a member of five Sections over the years and was appointed as Chair and Honorary Secretary of the Eastern Section, and served as President of the former Eastern Counties Gas Association.
In addition to being a trustee, Gordon spent many years chairing the Membership Committee and Strategy Planning Committee. Furthermore, he was a member on various IGEM boards and panels, including the Executive Board, Finance Committee, Benevolent Fund, and IGEM Trading. He also supported the next generation of engineers through professional review interviews, training, and workshops, and was recognised by the industry for his service with the IGEM Lifetime Achievement Award and the institution’s prestigious Birmingham Medal.
Gordon’s legacy is one of generosity, humility, and lasting impact. We will miss him greatly.
Our heartfelt condolences go to his wife, Angela, and their wider family, during this difficult time.
Gordon’s funeral is being held on Wednesday 23 July in Southampton. Members of the IGEM family and the gas industry are very welcome to attend. If you would like more information, please contact Lesley Ecob at [email protected]
