Fellow announcement: Pak Kin Cheung
We are pleased to recognise Pak Kin Cheung CEng FIGEM as a Fellow of IGEM.
Pak Kin has built a distinguished career leading safety, property management and customer-focused engineering operations across Hong Kong and Mainland China.
As Head of Customer Services at The Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited (Towngas), Pak Kin oversees two major departments and is a senior member of the management team. In this role he supervises nearly 300 engineers and technicians, along with over 350 subcontractors, ensuring optimal customer service for customers in the Hong Kong market.
His leadership encompasses technical development, quality assurance, embedding safety, reliability and customer needs throughout the product lifecycle. This is underpinned by the strategic direction he provides for safety policies, accident investigations, and operational standards that safeguard more than 56,000 employees across the region. In addition to this Pak Kin leads the annual KPI development for all business units, ensuring strong alignment with corporate strategy and performance expectations.
Pak Kin has made significant contributions to industry advancement through his long-standing involvement with IGEM. A committed supporter since 2011, he served as Committee Member and later as Chair of the IGEM Far East District Section and now continues to advise the section. His professional service also spans HKIE committees, the China Gas Association, and the Gas Safety Advisory Committee of the Hong Kong SAR Government.
A champion of innovation, Pak Kin pioneered the Smart Maintenance Solution, integrating data analytics and predictive maintenance to strengthen asset reliability and customer safety. He led the development of the Automatic Gas Inspection Gimbal, a groundbreaking inspection tool equipped with advanced optical zoom and laser methane detection, which is now deployed across more than 100,000 premises. He has since expanded this technology with AI-driven corrosion detection, enabling automated, precise assessments of gas riser integrity at scale.
On receiving his Fellowship, Pak Kin shared: “Applying for the Fellow grade at IGEM represents a pivotal moment in my professional journey. My motivation stems from a deep commitment to advancing the gas engineering industry and a desire to contribute meaningfully to the Institution and its community.
“The Fellowship is not just a recognition of past achievements, but a testament to sustained impact and dedication within the field. Receiving the Fellow grade signifies peer recognition for significant contributions to IGEM, the gas industry, and the broader engineering profession. This honour validates my efforts and inspires me to continue driving progress, sharing knowledge, and supporting the next generation of engineers.”
We proudly welcome Pak Kin as a Fellow and thank him for his ongoing contribution to the gas industry, which showcases the power of leadership, innovation and the drive for championing safety.
