Clean hydrogen investment tops $110bn as projects mature
Global investment in clean hydrogen has now surpassed $110 billion, according to the Hydrogen Council’s Global Hydrogen Compass. More than 500 projects are operational, under construction, or have reached a final investment decision.
Over the past year alone, investments rose by $35 billion, and committed investment has averaged ~50% growth per year since 2020.
About 1 million tonnes/year of hydrogen is already in operation, and total committed capacity (operational + under construction + FID) exceeds 6 million tonnes/year.
China leads with ~$33 billion in commitments, followed by North America with ~$23 billion. Together, they make up more than half of global investment. China is investing heavily in green hydrogen; the US in broader low-carbon hydrogen pathways.
The data shows clean hydrogen is moving from concept to reality, projects are scaling, commitments are real, and the industry is maturing fast.
