Affordable hydrogen: US Government's mission for more accessible electrolysers

The latest Multi-Year Program Plan from the Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technologies Office (HFTO), part of the US government, outlines the objective to reduce the cost of proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolysers to 25% of their current price within a span of two years.

Over 50% of the anticipated cost reduction is projected to originate from an expansion in manufacturing. The organisation aims for a minimum of 3GW of electrolyser manufacturing capability by 2026, though the breakdown for individual technologies remains unspecified.
