The ICHS2021 Call for Abstracts has now opened for the prestigious International Conference on Hydrogen Safety which will take place in Edinburgh from 21st to 23rd September 2021. The Scottish Government and HySafe invite you to take an active part in ICHS2021, which will be on the overarching theme of and  ‘Safe Hydrogen for Net Zero’ is being supported by IGEM.

The ICHS2021 International Conference on Hydrogen Safety will be held at the McEwan Hall in central Edinburgh, and is organised under the auspices of the International Association for Hydrogen Safety (HySafe). The first eight ICHS biennial conferences from 2005 to 2019 have attracted steadily increasing numbers of experts from all over the world, and provided an open platform for the presentation and discussion of new findings, information and data on hydrogen safety from basic research to applied development and from good practice to standardisation and regulatory issues.

The overarching theme for ICHS2021 is ‘Safe Hydrogen for Net Zero’ and the conference will address a wide range of hydrogen safety topics including: safety of large production and supply chain infrastructure, hydrogen and hydrogen carrier behaviours, physical effects, consequence and risk analysis, incidents, accidents and near misses, hydrogen effects on materials and components, safety of energy storage, power to gas/gas to power related safety issues, safety solutions for the implementation of hydrogen technologies, risk management, best practices, regulations, codes and standards, as well as communication strategies for wider public awareness and acceptance of hydrogen.

As the leading international conference on hydrogen safety, ICHS2021 looks to cover all topics relating to hydrogen and safety, and the call for abstracts is open for papers on experimental studies, theoretical mathematical modelling, safety management, incidents, accidents and near misses. The overarching themes for ICHS2021 include Energy & Infrastructure, Mobility & Transport, and Cross-Cutting Topics. A full list of the ICHS2021 Themes & Topics is available here.

Conference attendees who wish to present a paper can now submit their short abstract of up to 250 words via the ICHS2021 web portal. Authors can express a preference for presenting their work either in an oral session or in the poster session, or no preference. When the abstract has been accepted, the author will be asked to submit the full paper for peer review. Abstracts on hydrogen safety topics that are not listed will be given full consideration, but please contact ICHS2021 well before the abstract deadline.  All contributions to ICHS2021 will be evaluated for their scientific content and relevance to the wider uptake and deployment of safe hydrogen as part of the transition to a low carbon energy system.

ICHS2021 is organised by HySafe, the International Association for Hydrogen Safety. HySafe was founded as an international non-profit institution by the European Commission, and is a co-funded network of excellence for all hydrogen safety related issues. HySafe facilitates the networking for the further development and dissemination of knowledge and for the coordination of research activities in the field of hydrogen safety. HySafe also supports cost effective hydrogen safety research, enables innovative technologies and engineering, and provides education and training on a professional level.
