By Zenon Przybyszewski, North West Section Chair
The North West Section's Christmas lunch returned to the Mercure Hotel and Spa Blackburn, a beautiful 700-year-old country manor set in the Lancashire countryside.
This year’s event welcomed a record-breaking 227 guests who enjoyed an excellent three course meal with wine in the splendid Pendle Suite.
Notable attendees included IGEM’s Vice President Ben Clarke, former North West Section Chairs Tony Brennan, Steve Anderton, Peter Jellis, Tommy Knott, Karl Miller and Phil Croft, and long-serving committee member and Yorkshire Gas Association Honorary Secretary John Holroyd-Doveton.
Delegates were entertained by some amazing tricks from Magician Harry and a talk from guest speaker Eric Jones, a former Detective Superintendent with Manchester CID, who had some cheeky stories to share.
As this was a charity event, we were delighted to raise over £2,150 from the raffle for our chosen recipients the Pendle Hospice, selected in memory of former IGEM North West Section Chair Bill Maclean. A share of the proceeds will also go to Blessing in Disguise, a local charity that helps with all manner of educational and physical difficulties for children.
The donation was accepted by Katie Holt, who spoke before the lunch about how the charity started and how they use the donations to make life more manageable for those they help.
Thank you to all our sponsors for the kind raffle donations and their support for the event: Ameon, AVK, Cadent, Crane, Energy Assets, Fastflow, Last Mile, Lloyds Register, MCA Fusion Hire, J Murphy & Sons, Morgan Sindall, National Grid, Peak Pipe, PSS Hire, Simkiss, Synthotech and Utilise.
