South West Section golf day 2018

By Pip Wrenn, South West Section Chair

The annual South West Charity Golf Day was held on another beautiful Bristol day on 18 May 2018.

We had 10 teams participating and competing for some epic prizes. Auction and raffle items were generously donated from the Holiday Inn (Filton), Worcester Bosch, Aughton Hire, PSS Hire, Rush Construction, Radius Plus and Steve Vick.

The winner and runner up teams were both from Wales & West Utilities, earning themselves golf bags and jumpers respectively, with Total Utility Connections coming in third to win polo shirts.

I won’t embarrass the team that won a prize for last place, but we will no doubt continue to award a wooden spoon prize at future events.

The proceeds from the day raised around £1,800 for the Severn Freewheelers. Andy Wagg, former IGEM CEO and current Blood Bikes rider, attended the event and was very appreciative of the donation towards his cause. He says their annual running costs are around £50k, so this will go a long way towards that.

I must add a special shout-out to South West Section Secretary Stacy Griffiths and Immediate Past Chair Ian Marshall for their support. They were beavering away all day to ensure the event’s success.
