Course summary
A course for those involved in the installation, management or supervision of assets comprising of welded and flanged joints that could require stress analysis to validate integrity under normal and exceptional operating conditions. It will assist in recognising when stress analysis is required and ensuring it is carried out competently.
Course objectives
Provide an understanding of:
- Why stress analysis is required
- Who is responsible
- The acceptable standards
- The implication of not mitigating any potential stress exceptions
Course content
1. Stress analysis, where, when and how
2. What happens when it goes wrong
3. Stakeholders and their responsibilities
4. Material selection and components
5. Principals of stress analysis
6. Navigating IGEM/TD/12 practical applications
7. Mitigating stress exceptions
8. Records
Upon successful completion of this course, delegates will be able to:
- Identify when stress analysis is required
- Understand why stress analysis is important and the implications of it not being carried out effectively
- Recognise who should carry out stress analysis and how to verify their competence
- Understand the material selection process to reduce the likelihood of a design failing stress analysis
- Recognise how different types of stress analysis can be carried out and know what to expect from each one
- Recognise the sections of IGEM/TD/12 that provide greater information on loads and constraints –
- Recognise the sections of the standard that provide information on performance under differing conditions
- Understand stress and fatigue analysis principals
- Recognise options for rectifying stress exceptions
- Understand what records are required and who should provide them.
Who should attend?
Engineers, Site Engineers, Network Operators, Designers involved in installations that could be subjected to pipework stress analysis.
