IGEM is proud to support the CO Research Trust at their 3rd annual CO Conference, taking place on Tuesday 18 and Wednesday 19 June 2024 at Edgbaston Park Hotel & Conference Centre, Birmingham.

The event is FREE to attend and will be open to anyone who wishes to take part.

Taking on board feedback from last year the conference will have a slightly different format for 2024. You told us you would like more networking opportunities, additional breakout sessions, and more time to explore the topics being discussed.

The 2-day agenda takes all your feedback into consideration and includes a relaxed complimentary conference dinner with drinks on the evening of Tuesday 18th June.

Theme

This year, the conference will focus on:

Technology: innovations for detection and prevention
New developments in the measurement and detection of Carbon Monoxide in the home and other indoor environments, and how those technologies can be used to protect vulnerable groups and assist first responders.

Data
It is universally agreed that the incidents of carbon monoxide exposure are under-reported – both in the data collected by first responders and by health care professionals.

The conference will look at:

  • what is holding us back from having a better idea of the scale of exposure?
  • what do we need to do with the data we do have?
  • how can we improve the quality of data?
  • what data do we need to improve awareness amongst the public, influence policy makers, and better understand this preventable poison?

Future CO Challenges
Whilst the coming decade will see significant changes in the way that we heat and cook in our homes, the evidence is clear that low-level carbon monoxide exposure will remain a significant issue and public health burden.

This session will explore how we make best use of the data and tools available to us to be ready for these changes. And how as a CO community we engage, educate and influence decision makers and key stakeholders in the coming years.
