During 2014 and 2015 IGEM sponsored the independent Future Heat Series research inquiry being led by Carbon Connect. The inquiry was a response to a perceived lack of coherence in policy relating to how the UK heats its homes and businesses.
The inquiry was designed to bring industry representatives, government, policymakers and senior parliamentarians together to explore the facts around heat generation and usage and to build cross-party consensus.
The first report of the Future Heat Series was published in January 2015 and the second in October of the same year.
The second report urged Government to implement an ambitious, long-term strategy for the heat sector. It laid out a series of policies that could help to decarbonise the UK's heat system in a cost-effective way.
