IGEM welcomes yesterday's announcement from Government on its 10-point plan to help the UK achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050 and deliver a green economic recovery. Neil Atkinson, IGEM CEO said “it is particularly encouraging to see a focus on hydrogen production and hydrogen in homes for heating and cooking, with the promise of £500m in funding for hydrogen development. Delivering on these plans will open up considerable opportunities for jobs and industrial growth across the country, particularly in regions that have been severely impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic. What we need now is a coordinated approach across Government, industry and education to ensure the UK has the skilled people to help deliver these plans.
IGEM are proud to be working with industry to develop new hydrogen Technical Standards for the gas industry, and we will continue to support them to deliver the evidence base for hydrogen for heating projects and trials across the UK."
