The event started with an enlightening introduction to Worcester Bosch from Martyn Bridges, followed by quite an eventful technical presentation and an insight into their product development and hydrogen boiler prototype.
We were then taken around one of the most comprehensive training and assessment centres I've ever seen. Their facilities can cater for those interested in everything from chemical treatments through to the latest in heating technology.
Finally, the tour of their factory was extremely fascinating. They operate a well refined lean manufacturing process with comprehensive quality assurance. Case materials are pressed at one end of the factory, heat exchangers are put together using friction stir welding in large machines near the centre, pipework for the hydraulics and jig are formed by machines fed by large coils of copper pipe and all put together on a handful of lines using lean principles. They'll also be investing more in automation over the coming years.
