The YPN gets virtual

The YPN gets virtual
By Linda Mee, YPN Secretary

Director of Premtech Ian Butt threw down the gauntlet to his team of young graduate engineers and tasked them with organising and delivering an event for IGEM’s YPN.

They ably rose to the challenge and between them put on a highly interesting and engaging evening, showcasing their work with a great depth of knowledge and a huge amount of enthusiasm.

Attendees, who had travelled from far and wide to Ashby-de-la-Zouch, found out about digital engineering, also known as BIM, and what the future has in store for this fascinating technology.

They learned how Premtech develops 3D models that integrate data about the design, construction and future operation of an asset. They were given a riveting insight into drone application and there were plenty of opportunities to get handson with the mindblowing virtual and mixed reality technology.

Rachel Hassall, a YPN committee member, said: “It was a great, dynamic event and I enjoyed being ‘onsite’ virtually with the VR without leaving the warmth of the building!”
