In November, the Irish Section held a paper evening in Belfast, in collaboration with the Pipeline Industries Guild (PIG) to provide an update on developments within the natural gas industry to utilise hydrogen.

Philip Brain, from KIWA, and Corin Taylor, from DNV GL, gave an excellent overview of the work completed to date and the many ongoing projects and experiments that they are currently involved in.

In December, we followed this up with a second paper evening in Cork, also in collaboration with PIG. Philip was this time joined by John Beirne, from Ervia, to deliver the presentations.

Each of the presentations across the two events succeeded in piquing the interests of the audience and hopefully this will lead to further discussion.

These events demonstrated that the natural gas industry has a fantastic and very exciting future ahead of it as we all seek to meet the government’s ambitious commitment to climate action by driving decarbonisation.
