In October, the Midlands Section hosted its first ever Innovation Showcase at IGEM House, welcoming over 40 delegates.
The competition saw David MacDonald from Radius Plus Limited, Neil Brammall from Utility Survey Exchange Ltd, Rob Lumb from Synthotech and Steven Law from ALH Systems Ltd each given five minutes to present their latest work to a panel of expert judges.
After the presentations, delegates had the chance to network with colleagues from across the industry and to engage with event exhibitors ALH Systems Limited, Cadent, Radius Plus, Solutions for the Planet and Steve Vick International.
Les Dawson OBE rounded off the evening with his enlightening presentation, entitled: ‘Trouble maker better known as a disruptive innovator. This covered his 35 years in management for various utility companies and the importance of mastering one’s own role within the workplace and beyond.
The event closed with the judges announcing Rob Lumb of Synthotech as the winner of the Innovation Showcase competition.
Innovation is at the heart of keeping our industry moving forward; improving safety, asset security, efficiency and future talent. It’s important to host these events so that individuals, SMEs and large companies have the opportunity to present their new products, processes and services as well as share knowledge with their peers.
We will be running the event again next year and I’d like to thank the competitors, exhibitors and my fellow judges David Jones and Kate Grant for their time and knowledge on the panel. Many congratulations to Rob on his win.
On behalf of the Midlands section, we look forward to seeing you again next year.
