COVID-19 update: How IGEM is supporting members during the coronavirus pandemic

We want to reassure you that the safety and well-being of our members and staff is paramount, which is why IGEM has taken steps for its staff to operate remotely.

Despite the challenges of the current situation, we are continuing to support the industry as best we can, just as we know you will be working hard to ensure the safe supply of gas to homes and businesses around the world.

Whilst we have modified the way in which we operate, our teams are still working and adaptations have been made so that IGEM can continue to offer a number of core functions with minimal disruption to business as usual.

The steps we have taken:

  • Following government advice, the secretariat has been asked to work remotely until further notice. The office at IGEM House in Kegworth is closed until further notice.
  • The secretariat is making use of audio and video conferencing facilities wherever possible.

What is happening with my application?

Applications will continue to be taken and processed as normal. If you have any specific queries regarding your application, contact a member of our Membership Services team using the details below.

Can I still access technical standards?

Both hard copy and online standards are still available for purchase. For more information on standards, get in touch with the Technical Services team.

What about conferences, events and training?

The Institution’s conference, events and training programme, including the Gas Industry Awards, has been reviewed and a number of changes have been made to the schedule. An update regarding the current status of IGEM events can be found here.

Can I access financial support?

We are of course aware of the impact of COVID-19 on many peoples' jobs and livelihoods. If you find that you can't pay for your membership, through no fault of your own, you should speak to us as soon as possible as it gives us the best chance of providing support.

As the current epidemic has caused financial hardship for many, we would like to remind members of the IGEM Incorporated Benevolent Fund. The fund is the gas industry's leading welfare charity and exists to provide support and financial assistance to needy and distressed members of the Institution and their immediate families.

If you are in need of assistance or know someone who may need assistance, please approach or encourage them to approach the Institution. Membership of the fund is open to all grades of membership and no contribution or donation is required. However, members, and any others wishing to do so, can make voluntary donations or bequests.
