Those who can demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of engineering and how they aspire to apply themselves to the profession are invited to apply for IGEM’s scholarships and grants. IGEM aims to inspire innovation and personal development by recognising and rewarding your achievements wherever they can.
The following scholarships and grants are available to those working towards an engineering career with an interest in the energy sector, via university study.
Undergraduate Scholarship – Worth up to £9,000 (£3,000 per year up to three years) this scholarship is open to students who currently hold a conditional or unconditional offer for an Undergraduate Engineering Council accredited course
First Year Undergraduate Scholarship – Worth up to £6,000 (£3,000 per year for up to two years), this scholarship is open to those enrolled on their first year of their Engineering Council accredited degree and making excellent progress, to the standard of 2:1 or above
Postgraduate Masters Scholarship – Available to exceptional graduates with an accredited BEng (Hons) degree to allow them to undertake an Engineering Council accredited Masters course. Each scholarship is worth up to £6,500 for one year’s full time study
Student grants – Up to £1,500 can be awarded per academic year and can go towards living costs, travel, accommodation, course materials, software, books, etc. Available to applicants on accredited, engineering-related undergraduate degree or masters courses
Apprentice Development Grant - Worth up to £1,000 to support your career development. The grant is open to any individual who is working towards or has completed an engineering apprenticeship within an organisation working in the gas sector.
Engineering Technician Development Grant – Worth up to £1,500 to support your career development. The grant recognises IGEM EngTech members and the contribution they are making to the gas industry and wider community.
Ross McCart, IGEM Professional Development Officer, said: “With a fifth of the utilities sector’s 500,000-strong UK workforce due to retire in under a decade, IGEM is keen to do everything it can to close the skills gap and make engineering the career of choice for more young people.
“These scholarships have been made possible by the generosity of past IGEM members and are designed to support people who may become the gas engineers of the future.”
