IGEM enters 2021 with great positivity. We pursue our Business Plan ‘Enabling the Transition, Supporting the Profession’ with vigour and will continue to work with all stakeholders to help take the right decisions for ‘gas’. These decisions will help assure a very bright gas future, embracing clean and renewable energy to make the needed positive difference on meeting UK Climate Goals and securing a bright profession with critical skilled jobs at craft and engineer levels alike. IGEM will be at the heart of all of this and we have great ambitions for the next years.
As we take this journey I would like to personally thank the enormous contribution that our members, and particularly our volunteers, continue to make in support of IGEM’s efforts for the profession.
IGEM continues to monitor the advice of Public Health England and that of local and national government regarding Coronavirus.

Steps remain in place to safeguard the well-being of the Institution’s secretariat, its members and volunteers.
All of the Secretariat is working remotely
The office at IGEM House in Kegworth is closed. Our Facilities have been risk assessed against Covid risk, updated and deep cleaned. We will reopen the facilities in 2021 when appropriate
The Secretariat is following advice and using Teams and other video conferencing facilities wherever possible to support the work of the Institution and its members
The Institution’s conference, events and training programme for 2021 is currently being finalised. Visit the events and courses section of the site for details.
Contacting the Business
Whilst we have modified the way in which we operate the Institution is functioning well. We have a full compliment of staff, some members of the team now assigned to new roles in support of our changed business. None of our staff are furloughed.
The main contact number +44 (0)1509 678150 is still in use as are the direct line numbers for each member of the Secretariat. The team will be picking up their emails as normal. Therefore you should not experience any difficulties getting in touch.
If you have any concerns regarding your participation in a future IGEM activities please speak to your employer in the first instance who will help you assess the situation.

Professional development support (CPD provision) and Events programme
We have expanded our online offerings to members significantly in 2020 and this direction continues apace in 2021 as we bring in further digital products & services and enhanced virtual conferencing.
This will include addition of further resources to IGEM-TV, an extensive webinar programme, introduction of online training, a new e-learning platform, a new Knowledge Centre and a new conferencing platform.
Membership applications are received online and IGEM is conducting peer review interviews online by default.
Our suite of technical standards are available for online purchase as normal. These have been added to in 2020 as we take the lead into Hydrogen and several new standards area due to emerge in 2021 in support of this important energy vector.
We know that times are tough and for many these times of uncertainty can cause concern and anxiety. We've teamed up with Nina Penza, a professionally qualified Clinical Mental Health Counsellor/Psychotherapist to look at how we can cope amid the fear of the unknown and how we can safely manage transitioning into the 'new normal'.
This video explains techniques we can use to calm ourselves when we feel stressed or anxious and how we can channel our minds to react differently to the things happening around us.
