Licensed Gas Technician (LGT AIGEM)

Licensed Gas Technician (LGT) is one of two grades of membership aimed at individuals working with gas at the point of use. We refer to these individuals as utilisation professionals.

Visit the individual member benefits page for a summary of the key benefits you'll receive or read a selection of individual member testimonials.

Who can apply?

To be eligible for LGT membership you must be Gas Safe registered and have been so for two or more consecutive years.

You’ll need to demonstrate that you have gained sufficient knowledge and industry experience to comply with our LGT competence and commitment criteria and that you are committed to delivering a high level of customer service.

The way in which we assess whether or not you meet these criteria is by reviewing your vocational qualifications and training and employment history, obtaining references from two of your customers and checking your Gas Safe registration is valid.

Assessing your qualifications

We’ve identified a number of vocational qualifications which we have approved by mapping them to the LGT competence and commitment statements.
These are:

My qualifications are approved

If you have successfully completed one or more of these approved qualifications then the next step is for us to request evidence that you are committed to delivering a high quality customer service and verify your Gas Safe registration.

My qualifications are not approved

If your qualifications are not approved then we will simply need you to provide written responses to a series of questions that we refer to as our LGT competence and commitment statements.  The five questions that make up these statements have been designed to enable you to demonstrate the knowledge and experience that you have attained whilst working.

Customer service

We’ll ask you to sign up to our customer service pledge and provide details of two recent customers willing to confirm that they have received excellent customer service from you.

Finally we’ll ask you to sign a declaration agreeing to abide by our Code of Conduct and to confirm that you have read and understood our complaints and disciplinary procedures.
