Individual membership grades

To assist you in identifying the right individual membership, we've divided our grades into four broad categories; students and graduates, engineers and technicians, gas utilisation professionals and managers.

Students and graduates

Student membership is for those currently studying a science, technology, engineering or maths (STEM) qualification. Graduate membership is for those who have completed a Bachelors or Master’s degree in science or engineering.

Engineers and technicians

If you are working as an engineer or technician, then you may be eligible to join us as an Engineering Technician(EngTech), Incorporated Engineer (IEng) or Chartered Engineer(CEng). These grades incorporate professional registration with Engineering Council UK and entitle you to use the aforementioned letters after your name.

To be approved for any of these grades we will need to assess your academic qualifications, vocational training and industry experience against the UK Standard for Professional Engineering Competence (UK-SPEC).

If your current qualifications and experience don’t quite meet the requirements of UK-SPEC don’t worry. Join us as an Engineering Associate and we can help you work towards professional registration whilst you enjoy the benefits of being part of our network.

For full details of how we can assist you in achieving EngTech, IEng or CEng status, visit professional registration page or the specific webpages relating to these grades.

Already professionally registered?

If you are already a professionally registered engineer with another professional engineering institution (PEI) then please let us know when completing the initial application form as applying via our dual registration route can speed up the application process.

Gas utilisation professionals

Individuals who are working primarily in gas utilisation and who are registered with Gas Safe, can apply to become a Gas Technician or Licensed Gas Technician depending upon how many years’ experience they have.

Managers

If you are currently working in a management position or are thinking of working within the gas industry in a management role then you may be eligible for our Member Manager or Management Associate grades.
