Starting as a heating engineer apprentice way back when I’ve bene pretty much in that line of work since I left school at 16, working across a diverse range of activities from aircraft hangers to hospital incinerators. Moving whole into the gas industry I was a man in van working as a Transco Service Engineer (TSE) clue to my age in there…. Working across domestic and industrial installations and dipping my toe into NVQ assessor and management roles. After some time, I convinced someone I could learn about pipelines and COMAH storage sites and moved into the integrity management realm which brought an unimaginable wealth of challenges and new experiences where no day was ever the same working between security advisor on national infrastructure to heling teach youngster in school what to do when they could smell gas.
After enjoying some time away from onshore pipelines and looking at offshore and international clients, I returned back to the North East where I eventually ended up working with (and being mentored by) an enviable team of specialists at PIE Ltd.
I am looking forward to my time as NE&Y Chair as we hopefully head out of a very restrictive and turbulent time. Promoting what we as section and IGEM nationally do, sharing and increasing our technical knowledge and understanding of what is going on in the industry and beyond. Possibly meeting up for a sociable gathering or two! Oh and shedding some lockdown weight gain.
