The current Chair of our North East & Yorkshire Section is Ben Hanley. Ben has worked within the gas industry for 19 years, following his father and grandfather into the sector. He started out as an Instrumentation Apprentice in network maintenance before working as a technician for several years.
Ben moved into roles in asset risk management dealing with metering and gas quality where he got involved with capital replacement and biomethane connection projects. He has spent the last few years as Lead Integrity Engineer for Electrical, Instrumentation, Metering and Gas Quality at Northern Gas Networks.
An Incorporated Engineer with the IET, Ben has been involved with IGEM for a number of years. “I’m fortunate to have been involved in several working groups over that time, working on some interesting projects and document reviews.” said Ben.
He added, “I’ve been part of my local section for a number of years and am very fortunate to have a fully engaged and vibrant committee around me with a great mix of age and experience.
“One of my key objectives this year is to work with the section and our local partners over the current Covid-19 crisis and ensure that we are able to provide our members with support and exciting events. Whilst this won’t be easy, I’m extremely excited about the use of different media platforms to help us achieve this.
