The current Chair of our Industrial Affiliate Section is Phil Jenkins. Phil started his career as a 16-year-old apprentice for British Gas Wales in 1977, in the old Swansea Gas Depot. In 1988, he went to work for the new housing department of BG Wales Mid Glamorgan South offices, before becoming the Service Centre Manager at Barry Gas Depot in 1989. From 2000 onwards, he worked as a senior manager in the emergency department of National Grid, at one time managing the Gloucester emergency call centre. He is currently the lead role for compliance, quality management and assessments verification, alongside daily Managing Director roles and is the joint owner the Gas Assessment & Training Centre (GATC Ltd), based in South Wales.
I play a lead role in deploying the responsibilities of both our training centre, one in Treforest, South Wales and the other in Ferndown, Dorset; delivering the broad range of downstream gas operative training & ACS assessments required for those engineer’s GasSafe registration purposes. I represent the interests of training and engineers at UK industry forums, in particular, through my strong association with IGEM.
I am a member of the IGEM Executive team, IGEM council member and Trustee. I also chair the Industrial Affiliates section of IGEM.
I am a keen sports person and was once very privileged to enjoy a golf lesson from the legendary American professional golfer, Arnold Palmer.
He said: "I have a fairly broad knowledge about our industry and will do my very best to look after the interests of both our Industrial Affiliates and IGEM during my term in office."
