IGEM statement regarding Coronavirus (Covid-19) - updated 18.03.20

The situation regarding the spread of Coronavirus (Covid-19) in the UK is evolving rapidly. IGEM is monitoring the advice of  Public Health England and that of local and national government on a daily basis.

The following steps have been taken to safeguard the well-being of the Institution’s secretariat, its members and volunteers.

  • All of the secretariat has been asked to work remotely until further notice
  • The office at IGEM House in Kegworth has been closed
  • The secretariat has been advised only to attend ‘business critical’ meetings and encouraged to make use of audio and video conferencing facilities wherever possible
  • The Institution’s conference, events and training programme has been reviewed and a number of changes have been made to the schedule. An update regarding the current status of IGEM events can be found here

Business continuity

Whilst we have modified the way in which we operate preparations have been made so that the Institution can continue to function as close to normal as possible.

The main contact number +44 (0)1509 678 150 is still in use as are the direct line numbers for each member of the Secretariat. The team will be picking up their emails as normal. Therefore you should not experience any difficulties getting in touch.

Heads of Department are liaising with their teams to ensure they have the resources necessary to continue with the activities of the Institution as far as is practicable.

If you have any concerns regarding your participation in an IGEM activity please speak to your employer in the first instance who will help you assess the situation.

This statement will be reviewed on a daily basis and updated as necessary. Should you have any queries please get in touch.
