An IGEM Young Persons Network event
A fantastic opportunity to visit the UK’s first homes to demonstrate the use of hydrogen-fuelled appliances in a real-world setting.

The innovative properties, built by Northern Gas Networks (NGN) in partnership with the Government’s Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) and Cadent are located at the company’s Low Thornley site, near Gateshead.

The project secured £250,000 of funding from the BEIS Hy4Heat competition which aims to establish whether it is technically possible, safe and efficient to use hydrogen for heating homes and commercial buildings.

The houses will showcase the use of 100% hydrogen for domestic heating and cooking and for the first time, visitors will be given a glimpse into a hydrogen-fuelled future and will be able to interact with some of the hydrogen-fed appliances including boilers, hobs, cookers, fires and a barbecue.

Event description

As part of our normal review process and accelerated by the Grenfell Tower tragedy, we have updated IGEM/G/5 our standard which looks at Gas in multi-occupancy buildings.

Join our panel chair and expert witness, Rodney Hancox as he shares the key changes and rationale to this important standard.

Targeted at local authorities and social housing providers who have multi-occupancy buildings in their portfolio, Rod will take you through the key points you need to be aware of.

This is meant to be an overview to make you aware of the changes. We will be running a more detailed training course from late Q2 2021 once the standard is formally published.
