A fantastic opportunity to see and hear about a major gas reception terminal and learn about the pipeline that is a vital connection in the supply chain across Europe for the import and export of gas and capable of meeting a quarter of peak UK demand.
This is a free of charge event
This event comprises a tour of the Bacton Gas Terminal and Interconnector looking at all key points of operations including a visit to the compressor house (dependent upon flow).
In addition there will be a presentation on the background of Interconnector UK, the project, key statistics and how they fit into the market.
The team of experienced engineers and technicians who run the 24-hour operation will be on hand to answer any questions.
The Interconnector system was originally designed primarily for the export of gas from the UK. Compression facilities were installed at the terminal to raise the pressure of the gas taken from the UK grid for transportation via the sub-sea line to Zeebrugge.
The complex was then enhanced to increase UK import capability.
The centre piece of the installation is the compression facility that pumps the gas into the pipeline. Each compressor is driven by a powerful gas turbine. – the size and power equivalent to an aircraft engine.
Attendees will be divided into two groups. One group will be transported by coach to the nearby site for the tour whilst the other group stays in the Village Hall to listen to the presentation and then the groups will swap over.
Refreshments and lunch will be available.
The Terminal will provide all necessary PPE. Car parking is at Bacton-on-Sea Village Hall. Please note that this event is exclusively for IGEM YPN members and YPN eligible non-members aged 18 to 35.
