July is our gas innovation month. Join us as we highlight some of the great innovations taking place across the gas network.
This is a free of charge webinar.
Every Tuesday in July we will be featuring two projects from each theme of the recently updated Gas Network Innovation Strategy. Join us as the gas networks share some of their recent engineering projects with us.
During week one we will be focussing on innovation and the impact on
'Optimised Assets and Practices'. Join us to listen to our colleagues from the networks talking about the Valve Care Toolbox and My Dart projects.
National Grid Gas Transmission will share the latest developments of their Valve Care Toolbox project that seeks to respond to a set of valve related problems, initially thought to be caused by the widespread ingress of water into valve stem extension assemblies. This water ingress can lead to: internal corrosion of the torque tube and of the valve stem, corrosion debris fouling the lower quadrant mechanism and internal seal/flange damage. These effects can lead to failure of the valve to operate on demand having serious implications on the safe management of the National Transmission System (NTS).
Water ingress is likely to come from one or more of the following: weather seal failure on the actuator or stem, rain water entry through the breather/vent cap or vent hole (where the vent plug has been removed or damaged), condensation inside the valve stem accumulating in the bottom until it fills up or through a combination of a high water table and a leaking bottom flange.
NGN will be sharing an update on their My Dart project. The challenge for this project is to develop a digital solution to address the challenges site managers have when engineering crews replace distribution pipes. During this process if any existing assets are incorrectly recorded in the asset register an issue (DR4) is raised to correct the asset register. Updates to the asset register are required to be completed within 30 days. The current process for dealing with DR4’s is manual and time consuming slows the process of updates down. My Dart will look at how we can improve this.
