The North West Section will be joined by Prof. Russell Thomas
BSc (Hons) PhD CBIOL FRSB MIENVSc CEnv MSCI MIGEM EngTech, for his presentation on the history of the gas industry. His presentation will focus on the key events and technologies that have shaped the gas industry since its formation over two hundred years ago, to where we are today and how this may shape the industry’s future.
Russell is a Technical Director at WSP, Chair of the Institution of Gas Engineers and Managers History Panel and co-editor of its publication, the Historic Gas Times. He has spent his entire career looking at different aspect of the environmental legacy of the manufactured gas industry. Most recently he has been working on a project for Historic England, which has been recording the history of the manufactured gas industry in England. He has appeared on TV, authored, books, reports and numerous academic papers and been an invited speaker at conferences globally. Russell has a visiting Professorship at the department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Strathclyde and a lectureship at the University of Manchester.
