Technical - Transmission and Distribution Series Standards

  • IGEM/TD/1 - High pressure pipelines (>16 Bar)

    • offers information on relevant European/British legislation to assist with the construction and design of pipelines
    • contains equations and graphs for proximity distances to buildings etc.
    • relevant safety information when maximum operating pressures exceed 100 bar.

  • IGEM/TD/1 Supplement 1 - Handling, transport and storage of steel pipe

    • covers the handling, transport and storage of steel pipe
    • highlights precautions to control steel pipe products being delivered, off-loaded and stored safely at customers' sites.

  • IGEM/TD/2 - Pipeline Risk Assessment

    • supports all key stakeholder groups in carrying out, and assessing the output from, pipeline risk assessments
    • provides a consistent basis for carrying out risk assessments and document key assumptions
    • identifies and quantifies the effectiveness of mitigating measures that can be taken to further reduce risk support discussions with Developers, Local Authorities and the HSE about risk for land use planning but can also be used by Pipeline Operators in carrying out risk assessments for other purposes.

  • IGE/TD/3 - Distribution mains (< 16 Bar)

    • covers predominantly underground network of pipes that distribute gas from a pipeline used for gas transmission, central LPG storage facility or gas production plant, to a service or services supplying domestic, commercial and industrial premises
    • protects members of the public and those who work with pipelines as well as the environment, and to ensure that security of gas supply is maintained.
    • give requirements for design, construction, inspection, testing, operation and maintenance of steel and polyethylene (PE) pipelines for the distribution of dry Natural Gas (predominantly methane) (with or without odorisation) and Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). This includes modification and connection to existing pipeline systems.

  • IGE/TD/4 - Gas services (< 16 Bar)

    • covers Natural Gas, services of MOP not exceeding 10 bar in PE and not exceeding 16 bar in steel and at a temperature between 0ºC and 20ºC inclusive for PE and -25ºC to 40ºC inclusive for steel. It includes LPG for services of MOP not exceeding 2 bar in the vapour phase.

  • IGE/TD/12 - Stress analysis

    • provides stress analysis of the gas plant and reflects the need to ensure adequate reliability and continuity of supply at pressures that are safe for the downstream system and equipment. The stress analysis is for pipework carrying 1st and 2nd family gases at a maximum operating pressure of 100bar and temperatures between -25°C and 120°C inclusive.

  • IGEM/TD/13 - Pressure regulating installations

    • gives the best guidance and advice for those PRIs operating at an inlet pressure not exceeding 100 bar and an ambient temperature of between -20°C and 60°C to ensure adequate reliability and continuity of supply at pressures that are safe for the downstream system and equipment
    • is aligned with BS EN 12186, the equivalent European Standard on which IGE/TD/13 is intended to provide more specific guidance.

  • IGEM/TD/101 - Management of UIP activities

    • sets down the minimum management requirements for the laying of newly constructed Natural Gas mains and services (pipelines) including associated installations, for example a PRI, having MOP of 7 bar, for adoption by a GT.
