An exciting and challenging opportunity has arisen in the
Institution of Gas Engineers and Managers (IGEM) for a graduate
engineer/s to undertake an internship within the Institution
commencing in August 2012 for a fixed term period of 10
months.
Based in Derbyshire by Royal Charter, IGEM is an internationally
recognised and learned organisation with two primary objectives,
these include the provision of outstanding services to our 4000
members who are behind the creativity and engineering excellence
that shines through every aspect of the gas sector and the
development and maintenance of operational safety standards which
are used throughout the world; These definitive standards are
produced in collaboration with industrial and academic partners who
drive and shape the existing and new gas markets.
What we expect of the successful candidate/s?
The successful candidate/s will carry out a thorough and
comprehensive review of the processes and related equipment used in
the containment and use of bio fuels, liquefied natural gas, carbon
dioxide, and hydrogen and as a consequence produce a number of
reports, the recommendations of which, where appropriate will argue
for the development of new gas standards or the modification of
existing standards.
The research will be gathered through a variety of means including
site visits, qualitative and quantitative research.
The key achievements of this role will include:
- The production of detailed referenced reports that reflect the
existing procedures and practices that govern the management,
production and employment of bio fuels, hydrogen, carbon dioxide,
and liquefied natural gas.
- Development and execution of a comprehensive industry-visiting
schedule.
- Identification of key industry experts in all target gas
sectors.
- Acquiring a thorough understanding of the structure and
composition of the global gas industry and the market for new
gases
Skill Requirements
- Minimum upper second engineering degree in either
mechanical/production/chemical or nuclear engineering
- Enthusiasm for engineering and engineers
- Keen interest in technology is essential
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Fully conversant with all Microsoft and project management
software
- Resourceful and can demonstrate initiative
- Reliable and capable
- self direction and working with and supporting colleagues
within IGEM
- Full drivers license
- 2 references will be required
- Role reports to the Head of Technical Services IGEM
Salary £18,000 plus pension contributions
Based in Kegworth, Derbyshire
Travel throughout the UK possibly continental Europe
Role will be fully mentored and research will be available to the
candidate to use to acquire further academic qualifications.
