Remembering gas history – Celebrating 200 years in gas
The Gas Retired Employees Association (GREA), London HQ Branch,
former employees of British Gas (HQ), has been given over 1400
pictures by National Grid. Most of the images are from some time
ago and are of historical interest. The images have no captions,
however many are fascinating as they chronicle the history of the
gas industry over the years.

BSI brings industry together to develop pioneering
standard for Subsurface Utility Engineering
It is well recognised within the construction industry that
existing underground utilities and their related structures pose
considerable risks to new projects and hinder the development of
new activity.
Last month the British Standards Institution (BSI) brought
together a number of influential decision makers from the
built-environment sector to determine the requirement for a new
standard for collecting and depicting existing underground utility
data. This workshop took place on January 4th at BSI's group
headquarters in Chiswick.

Diversity Workshop - A Great Success
IGEM in partnership with Energise successfully
delivered an informative and inspiring diversity event to HR
personnel working in the Gas Industry. Drawing upon experts within
Employment Law, Transgender Equality at work and Recruitment made
this event enjoyable, educational and a great forum for sharing HR
practices.

Update on the Technician Council
The Technician Council, which was established nearly two years
ago, will complete the first phase of its work in March of this
year with the launch of the 'Professional Technician' brand.

Rolls-Royce to deliver world's first gas power system for tugs
Rolls-Royce, the global power systems company, has signed a
contract to deliver highly efficient engines and propulsion systems
for the world's first Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) powered tugs.

DECC Blog on Energy Prices
Last November, DECC published its updated analysis of the
estimated impact of energy and climate change policies on gas and
electricity prices and bills paid by UK energy consumers.
Alongside this report we published the chart below, showing that
the estimated impact of policies in 2020 is for household energy
bills to be, on average, 7% or £94 (real 2010 prices) lower than
what they would have been in 2020 if these policies were never
introduced.

Shale Gas and the Road Fuel Market
CNG Services Ltd Managing Director, John Baldwin, was invited by
the All Party Parliamentary Group on Peak Oil and Gas (APPGOPO) to
give a presentation on Shale Gas and the Road Fuel Market. The
presentation, given yesterday (17th January 2012) at the House of
Commons explained how Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) can reduce oil
dependence in UK transport and reduce cost and CO2 emissions in
this sector.

Inspiring the engineers of the future
I'm an Engineer, get me out of here! is set
to give engineers the chance to inspire the next generation without
leaving the office.
I'm an Engineer, get me out of here! is funded by the
Royal Academy of Engineering's public engagement grants scheme,
Ingenious. It is just one of over 70 projects funded to
date by the scheme to encourage engineers to share their stories in
a creative and original way.

Relocation of The Combustion Engineering Association
For the attention of all Combustion
Engineering Association members and their
Staff;
The Combustion Engineering Association is in
the process of moving its office from Cardiff to Sedgefield in
County Durham following the appointment of a new director, David
Kilpatrick. It is hoped that the physical move will take place in
mid-January.

Engineering Council accredited degree logo is now available
Universities and colleges are being encouraged to use the
'Engineering Council accredited degree' logo alongside the name of
all degree programmes that have been accredited by a licensed
Professional Engineering Institution (PEI).
