Technical Report Option

"...a way by which individuals whose initial academic qualifications do not meet in full the exemplifying requirements for CEng or IEng may demonstrate the required knowledge and understanding"

IGEM recognises that not everyone who wishes to become registered has an accredited Bachelors or Masters degree, but many people during the course of their career will have gained the experience and knowledge to become a professionally registered Incorporated or Chartered Engineer.

The purpose of the Technical Report Option is to provide a mechanism for applicants who lack the full benchmark academic base to demonstrate that their professional engineering experience has compensated for any shortfall.

The UK Standard for Professional Engineering Competence (UKSPEC) exemplifying route for an Incorporated Engineer is an accredited Bachelors degree in engineering or technology or a Higher National Diploma or Foundation Degree in engineering or technology, plus further learning to degree level. For a Chartered Engineer it is an accredited Bachelors degree with honours in engineering or technology, plus either an appropriate Masters degree or appropriate further learning to Masters level, or an accredited integrated MEng degree.

The Technical Report Option offers the opportunity for candidates who do not have these qualifications to demonstrate that they have achieved the same level of knowledge and understanding as those with the qualifications. You can do this by writing a technical report, based upon your experience, which demonstrates your knowledge and understanding of engineering principles. Applicants should seek approval before proceeding with this route.
