How much does it cost to join?

The application fee is £100.00 +VAT. This is to be sent with your application. Please make your cheque or standing order payable to the IGEM. 
* Annual Subscription Fee 
Following election, new entrants will be charged the annual subscription for the category pro-rata to the number of months remaining during the year. The annual subscription becomes due on 1st January every year.

      <title>Fellow</title>

      <description>Fellow is the highest electable and transferable grade of membership. It is awarded to senior engineers who by their attainment have acquired an established reputation as an engineer and have been engaged for a sufficient period in an important position of responsibility to which they have bought superior knowledge position of responsibility and practice of an engineering discipline.
Entry Requirements
* Hold a degree level qualification in an engineering discipline.
* Must be a Chartered Engineer with IGEM.
* Is engaged at the time of application in a senior industry position in the Gas Industry for at least five years.
* Is in a senior position in an area of employment which has interests in common with the Gas Industry.
* Must have significant involvement in either the Council or its supporting committees over a number of years.
* Complies with any other conditions which may be prescribed by the Council from time to time.

      <title>Chartered Member</title>

      <description>Chartered Members are concerned with the progress of technology through innovation, creativity and change. They develop and apply new technologies, promote advanced design concepts and design methods, introduce new and more efficient production techniques, marketing and construction concepts, and pioneer new engineering services and management methods.
Entry Requirements
Every candidate for election or transfer to the class of Chartered Member shall comply with the following conditions:
Educational Base
* Must have an accredited MEng engineering degree or equivalent; or
* Must have an accredited BEng(Hons) engineering degree, or equivalent, plus appropriate further learning to Masters level; or
* Must have attained the Engineering Council Diploma; or
* Must have completed the Technical Report Option
Initial Professional Development (IPD)
IPD may be expected to take at least 4 years and it is a requirement to demonstrate competence and commitment applied in the gas industry by means of the Professional Review.

Procedures

* Candidates should submit the Corporate Membership Application Form below.
* The application must be supported by 2 Corporate members of equivalent grade, or greater of the Institution. The Proposer and Seconder must authenticate as many of the statements made by the applicant as possible.
* Both Proposer and Seconder must authenticate all certificates. Both are asked to sign that they have seen the original certificate and that they believe this to be a true and original certificate. Failure to do so shall delay the process of the application.
* Together with the application form, candidates must submit one copy of their Professional Review Report, drawings and documentary evidence of academic qualifications and if appropriate training records as well as the appropriate application fee.
* Professional Review Interviews will be arranged for candidates as soon as the completed application has been received and all checking procedures have been completed.
* Candidates will be notified of the result of the Membership Committee as soon as a decision has been made. Unsuccessful candidates will be given the result of their Professional Assessment indicating areas of weakness or reasons for failure to satisfy the Assessors.

      <title>Incorporated Member</title>

      <description>Incorporated Engineers maintain and manage applications of current and developing technology at the highest efficiency. They provide independently and as leaders a significant influence on the overall effectiveness of the organisation in which they work.
Entry Requirements
Educational base
* Must possess any of the qualifications listed for Chartered Member plus and if deemed necessary, appropriate further learning; or
* Must have an accredited first degree in an engineering discipline that satisfies the educational requirements for Incorporated Engineer; or
* A Foundation degree, HND or HNC in an engineering discipline that satisfies the criteria listed below, plus appropriate further learning;
HNC Required Profile
BTEC/EDEXEL HNC
The HNC must include:
A minimum of 8 Higher level credits (including the project) relevant to engineering. The project must be of at last 1 higher level unit and integrate the content of the programme and demonstrate ability in the application of engineering principles.
Mathematics and computing related to engineering application equivalent to at least one unit each at the lower level. This can be achieved within the HNC programme or by means of individually distinct HNC/D unit or units obtained in another programme of study.
SQA HNC
The HNC must include:A minimum of 12 higher level credits (including the project) relevant to engineering. The project must be of at least 1.5 higher level units and integrate the content of the programme and demonstrate ability in the application of engineering principles.
Mathematics and computing related to engineering application equivalent to at least 1.5 units each at the lower level. This can be achieved within the HNC programme or by means of individual distinct HNC/D unit or units obtained in another programme of study.
* Have a first degree, which may or may not be classified in an engineering discipline that has been accredited by the Institution or any other Licenced Member of the Engineering Council.

      <title>Technician Member</title>

      <description>Technician Members are involved in the application of proven technology and procedures to the solution of practical problems. They have supervisory and technical responsibility and contribute to the design, development, manufacture, commissioning and maintenance of products, equipment, processes and services.
Entry Requirements
There are two ways to gain the grade of Technician Member, Route A and Route B.
Route A
Candidate seeking professional Engineering Technician registration, who hold particular types of qualifications, will usually find that this greatly simplifies the process of becoming an Engineering Technician
Typical Qualifications are:
* A National Certificate or National Diploma in Engineeing or Construction and the Built Environment.
* An approved qualification in Engineering or construction at level 6 in Scottish Qualifications and Credit Framework.
* A City &amp; Guilds Higher Professional Diploma in Engineering.
* A technical certificate as part of an approved Advanced Modern Apprenticeship Programme.
* An IGEM approved Level 3 NVQ or SVQ.
Route B
Candidates for Engineering Technician without the qualifications listed above may be able to apply for a Route B appraisal. This separate procedure, administered by IGEM, involves an in depth appraisal of knowledge and experience acquired. Experienced, practising professional Engineering Technicians are often found to have gained the necessary knowledge and skills for their job through working closely with other skilled colleagues over a number of years. This appraisal will be undertaken through a work place assessment where the assessor will visit the candidate's workplace to appraise knowledge and experience acquired.
Initial Professional Development
IPD may be expected to take at least 4 years and it is a requirement to demonstrate competence and commitment applied in the gas industry. The Institution may reserve the right to invite an applicant for a Professional Review Interview if necessary.

      <description>This grade is for managers in a managerial position within the gas industry.
Managers in the gas industry are eligible for entry to the grade of Manager and are Corporate Members of the Institution and shall comply with the following conditions:

Every Candidate for election or transfer to the class of Member Manager Grade Member shall comply with the following conditions:
* Hold a senior management position in the gas industry or an organisation directly associated/connected with the gas industry and have been a senior manager at this level for a minimum of 4 years; or
* Have a suitable academic vocational or professional qualification (i.e NVQ Level III or above) and to have held an appropriate senior management position for a period of 2 years; and
* Demonstrate a personal plan of development that incorporates a clear commitment to lifelong learning and the Institution's policy of Continuing Professional Development.

      <description>If you are a registered Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Incorporated Engineer (IEng) with the Engineering Council (ECuk) and have been working in the gas industry for more than 4 years, you may be considered as a Dual Registrant.

* The application must be supported by 2 Corporate Members of equivalent grade, or greater, of the Institution. Proposer and Seconder are asked to authenticate as many of the statements made by the applicant as possible.
* You must supply an authenticated copy of both your Institutions Membership Certificate and Engineering Council certificate confirming your registration of the relevant grade. Both proposer and seconder must authenticate all certificates. Failure to do so will delay the process of the application.
* It is not necessary for a written report to be provided. However, following receipt of your completed application form you could be asked to supply a copy of the submission you made to the Institution/professional body that registered you as a CEng or IEng and/or attend an interview. (The Institution reserves the right to ask the applicant for an interview if necessary)
* Return the completed application form with copies of certificates, documentary evidence and appropriate appliction fee to the Membership Department of the Institution.

      <description>Graduate Members are those pursuing a postgraduate course of study or a training programme likely to lead to Corporate Membership of the Institution.
Entry Requirements
* Have an accredited MEng engineering degree, or equivalent; or
* BEng/BSc(Hons) or non honours degree accredited for IEng or Member Manager grade.
Intital Professional Development
Candidates with qualifications listed above are deemed to be en-route to Member and registration as Chartered or Incorporated Engineer. They are not yet required to undertake the Professional Review but must be in the course of developing the Initial Professional Development.
