IGEM/SBGI Gas Industry Awards Nominations
The deadline for nominations for the Gas Industry Awards is Friday 26 March so don’t forget to submit your nominations. The nomination form can be found in the centre of this journal. Here some of the winners in 2009 tell us what winning meant to them and why you should nominate this year.
Stuart Godfrey, Chief Executive for Radius Systems, won the Gas Industry Chief Executive of the Year Award 2009. He said:
“I was really shocked and humbled by winning this award; I had no idea that I was even nominated for it. The year in question was the most challenging in my career and to be recognised by people in the industry in which you have worked all your life is very humbling.”
Paul Johnson, Project Manager for National Grid Grain LNG, won the Gas Industry Manager of the Year Award at the Gas Industry Awards Lunch 2009. He said:
“The nomination for IGEM Gas Industry Manager of the Year came as a complete surprise. To be nominated for this prestigious award was important to me as I knew this came from the team that I was managing and working with to deliver the National Grid expansion works at Grain LNG. To go on to win the award and to be recognised publicly for achievement, success and innovation in the gas industry was a great personal achievement and I was pleased to have the opportunity to represent National Grid at the ceremony.
“The award was about the achievements of everyone and recognised the team work which was required to deliver such a large project to time and budget. Industry awards, such as these, are important in bringing together expertise from across the liberalised gas industry and include a range of categories to enable achievements to be widely recognised.”
Wales & West Utilities won the Gas Industry Customer Service Award in 2009 and Mark Oliver, Director of Business Services, collected the Award on their behalf. He said:
“This was the second Gas Industry award that Wales & West Utilities have collected since being set up as an independent company in June 2005. We have placed a strong emphasis on improving our Customer Service levels and it was great to see this recognised by the industry as a whole.
“I was proud to collect the award on behalf of all the staff at Wales & West Utilities, this really has been a great team performance by our staff and contract partners Being at the top of the Ofgem Customer Satisfaction league tables for Customer Service is a great place to be, this award reinforces the fact that our efforts are being placed in the right areas and our customers are able to see and feel the benefits of our focused approach.
“These awards are highly valued within the Gas industry and they are becoming increasingly important to external stakeholders i.e. shareholders as they give a positive statement about your intent and ability to compete on a national basis.
“People often claim to have excellent initiatives but don't put any effort into submitting an application - it’s an old cliché but 'If you are not in, you can’t win!!’”
So don’t delay, nominate today!
