IGEM Flame - Keep Enlightened
In the Midlands on 19th March?

Ian Smith - Technical Services Manager

Dear Reader ,

Welcome to the March edition of the IGEM Flame, our e-newsletter.

While others may tread water to consolidate in a predicted difficult year, IGEM, and its Technical Services in particular, is not.

We published 8 new and revised Standards in 2008. We are aiming for 12 in 2009 and past trends indicate that at least 8, potentially 10, of these will come to fruition.

The real eye opener is the number of Seminars and Workshops planned. Look out for 2 on TD/1 and TD/2 (possibly 3 if over subscribed), 2 on gas supplies for mobile dwellings, 3 on dealing with energy supply emergencies, at least 2 on common issues when providing gas supplies to blocks of flats, and then, subject to the associated Standards being published on schedule, 2 on "standard gas meter installations" (IGEM/GM/6 Edition 2), and symposia, Seminars and Workshops on the recent HSL work on hazardous areas (IGEM/SR/25 Edition 2 and IGEM/UP/16).

Support for the work of IGEM Technical Committees and Panels remains strong. Indeed, in times of change (CORGI/Capita/Gas Safe etc.), support for new IGEM work has been amazing.

All events and new Standards will be publicised in the Flame and the Journal, but keep an eye on the website where we hope to start providing information on progress as well as the finished articles.

Remember, "Keep enlightened with IGEM Flame!"

Yours sincerely, Ian Smith, Technical Services Manager.
